Floating Lead Operator

 

DESCRIPTION:

The normal schedule for this position is Monday – Friday, 1st shift, but be prepared to cover positions on all shifts. The finishing floating lead operator will perform various job functions that support the finishing areas.  The duties range from filling in positions in the Sanding Department on all shifts, delegating tasks to employees to support the area, and operating the angular saw and supporting that area in the event we need to run that work center.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Fill in for the Sanding team leader and all other positions in Sanding when there are absences.  Be able to efficiently and seamlessly fill in for all positions within finishing.
  • Promote teamwork with crew members and with other shifts by relaying departmental goals and accomplishments daily.
  • Must be able to navigate through a windows operating system, and have basic knowledge of Microsoft applications, SAP, Kronos, etc.
  • Performs incident investigations with accurate details regarding any accident or near miss. 
  • Accurately fill out and record all needed paperwork in the finishing area.  This includes paperwork and record keeping associated with the team leader, operator, assistant operator, and forklift operators.
  • Lead in coordination and/or verification of LOTO procedures for shutting down and working on equipment
  • Evaluate deficiencies in the day to day operation that will help increase the average daily output of the finishing areas
  • Acquire the proper tools, parts, etc. that are needed to keep the area running at maximum efficiency
  • Take direction from the Finishing Area Superintendent that aligns with the company objectives.  This may include assisting in shipping, sanding or CTS.
  • Perform predictive troubleshooting on equipment that helps to identify potential issues that would cause unplanned downtime, and report it to the area superintendent and/or maintenance
  • Enter w/o notifications in SAP for corrective work orders
  • Perform semi-finished and finished goods inventories as needed
  • Monitor pallet label printing in finishing, and work to correct any inventory discrepancies that may exist in SAP
  • Work alongside planning to help identify and/or label material that requires action after the initial handling through the work center
  • Oversee the release of hold material, and provide direction and delegation to employees on how to properly handle the release designation
  • Assist the finishing areas to stay production through break times
  • Must have flexibility in work schedule.  Be prepared to work varying hours.  (8-hour or 12-hour days on nights and/or weekends)
  • Able to successfully train other employees in finishing as needed
  • Evaluates performance of employees in the area and gives reports to the area superintendent
  • Assist in troubleshooting problems with the book saw, sander, gradeline, and cut to size saw
  • Read, understand, and follow packaging instructions for material being packaged
  • Communicate via two-way radio with other crew members using proper etiquette
  • Observes safe work practices in compliance with the safety policy
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the Sanding Team Leader

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1 yr experience in a manufacturing setting is required

  • Must be able to perform a wide scope of duties
  • Operate a 550 and smaller forklift often
  • Operate an aerial lift occasionally
  • Ability to read a tape ruler and micrometer
  • Must be computer literate

 

Rate: $22- 24.00/hr
