Primary Objective:

Performs a variety of electrical trade functions in the installation, maintenance, repair and/or distribution of electrical energy and assists with preventive maintenance on production equipment. 

 

Major Functions and Scope:

  • Consistently complies with ALL safety requirements, including; eye protection, hearing protection, appropriate clothing, fall protection, confined-space procedures, powered equipment operation, and NFPA 70E Arc-Flash safety. Coaches other employees on PPE and safety requirements to contribute to a safe work environment.
  • Serves as ‘Team Leader’ for Facilities Maintenance Team as first point of contact for routine trouble calls in the facility and either resolves the situation or assigns to other team members, depending on circumstances and activities.
  • Responds after hours, nights, and weekends as needed to support plant operations and prevent or minimize production loss caused by malfunctioning facility and infrastructure equipment.
  • Installs network cabling and networking equipment as required to support plant communication and data needs.
  • Supports plant power distribution systems, including switchgear, MCC’s, panelboards, UPS systems, diesel generator, automatic transfer switches, lighting controls, and other needs. 
  • Performs required work to install electrical conduit, panels, transformers, and other systems as needed to support new or changing production needs at the facility.
  • Maintain plant lighting, including fluorescent lighting, metal-halide lighting, and halogen lighting. Uses ladders, man-lifts, and other equipment to access lighting as high as 40 feet.
  • Uses experience and creativity to fix or repair machinery breakdowns to minimize downtime.
  • Inspects, monitors, and maintains HVAC equipment (chillers, pumps, air-rotation units, air-handlers, VAV boxes, thermostats, electric heaters, etc.)
  • Troubleshoots, maintains, and performs minor repairs to plant compressed-air system (air compressors, dryers, controls, etc.)
  • Troubleshoots, tests, maintains, and repairs plant fire alarm system as needed.
  • Provides grounds maintenance services, including such tasks as emptying exterior waste containers, cleaning-up debris and trash from building and grounds, cobweb removal, occasional removal of pests (snakes, bees, etc.)
  • Troubleshoots electrical problems with single phase and 3 phase motor control circuits.
  • Reads and comprehends wiring and pneumatic schematics for troubleshooting.
  • Troubleshoot and repair automatic high-speed roll-up doors, dock levelers, ventilation fans, and other facility equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Safely lifts and installs equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Education and Knowledge:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Associates degree in electrical or electronics field, or 5+ years’ experience in electrical trade.
  • Knowledge of NEC or electrical contractor license
  • Valid driver’s license

Experience:

  • 5 + years of electrical maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.

Competencies:

  • Strong communication skills across all levels of the organization
  • Above average math skills
  • Ability to use a digital multi-meter to measure voltage, current, resistance, and capacitance
  • Select proper tools for mechanical or electrical repairs, and use them safely
  • Ability to efficiently estimate required materials to perform a small project, mechanical or electrical
  • Ability to execute preventative maintenance programs on facility equipment with little or no supervision
  • Good documentation skills, including completion of required inspection and preventive maintenance documents
  • Ability to understand, apply, and follow local or state codes, ordinances, and policies
  • Ability to effectively interact with technical people and manage maintenance technicians and contractors
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, vendors and general public
