Position Title: Automation Manager

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Provide guidance for the controls section on all CAPEX projects regarding machinery.
  2. Update and manage our Electrical Guidelines Document for purchasing of new machinery.
  3. Provide procedures, structure, and standards of work for automation in all departments on site Thomasville
  4. Manage software platforms supporting automation in the business such as Versiondog and IBA.
  5. Manage, coach, and train members of the Automation Team for all departments on site Thomasville.
  6. Organize training & learning events for members of the Automation Team and Maintenance related to automation subjects.
  7. Discuss with other departments on priorities of the Automation Team (Thomasville).
  8. Provide guidance during critical downtime events to members of the Automation Team.
  9. Manage or assist with CAPEX projects.
  10. Train the team in correctly troubleshooting issues.
  11. Manage the future position of Technical Trainer into developing a useful, efficient training curriculum for our Maintenance staff, including lab work, developing tests, and creating trainers and teaching material
  12. Create and develop trainers regarding select automation items not included in the Technical Training Center, such as PLC languages, and good habits of code writing, drive technologies (Siemens/Lenze/Sew), machine safety & PLC's, and networking protocols.
  13. Reach out to external automation businesses, screen them, and outsource work to them in case of internal team overload.
  14. Performs other duties as required.

 

The Automation Manager position has 12 direct reports:

- 6 Automation Technicians

- 2 Automation Engineers

-1 Training Manager

-1 Engineering Technician Team Lead

-1 Automations Specialist

-1 Technical Engineer-Automation

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a directly related field, plus the following experience:
  1. 4 years of experience in each of the following: designing, implementing, and maintaining automated manufacturing systems across multiple sites that operate 24/7.
  2. 4 years of experience must also include each of the following: Industrial robots, Material Handling, Machining and Assembly, Quality Control, Packaging & Shipping and Warehouse Management.
  3. 4 years of experience working with automation technologies that must include each of the following: Siemens, SCL (Structured Control Language), and PLC (Programmable Logic Controller).
  4. 4 years of experience in managing automation projects within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience may be gained concurrently.
  • Requires up to 10% International and 5% Domestic travel to other company worksites.
