Job Objective:
The Lead General Maintenance position in manufacturing assigned plant(s) is responsible for planning, directing action plans, and managing the Maintenance Team to maintain, troubleshoot, and restore failed systems and equipment. This includes sprinkler systems, dock doors, dock leveling plates, building electrical, HVAC, dock plates, building structure, and all production equipment. The Lead General Maintenance also recommends and implements system modifications to reduce equipment downtime and optimize efficiency. Additionally, they efficiently assign maintenance project work and lead the maintenance team in accordance with established company procedures.
Major Function:
- Supervises hourly personnel involved with maintenance, repair, programming and servicing of plant facilities and equipment
- Leads the preventative maintenance program on items including production equipment, boilers, chillers, air washers, air compressors, electrical panels, switch gears, fire alarm systems, and security systems
- Collects and records data such as machine downtime, PM checklists, equipment calibration, and parts usage
- Assists shift supervisors in maintaining a clean and safe work environment for associates with 5S methodology
- Provides immediate solutions to problems that might arise with machines, equipment, or facilities
- Assists the supply room coordinator in ordering parts and reducing the MRO costs
- Maintains performance records on employees and routinely communicates performance to employees
- Schedule employees' work time and PTO time to ensure proper coverage for plant
- Schedules and prioritizes planned work from weekly downtime to scheduled PM maintenance
- Assures the availability of material to meet requirements of scheduled maintenance assignments
- Responsible for all Maintenance and Equipment improvement aspects of “Business Improvement” as well as the reporting of action plan for completion
- Works with Safety Specialist and Plant Leadership to ensure compliance to all safety regulations.
- Manages supply room function including spare parts inventory while minimizing risk and investment
- Attend any job-related training deemed necessary by supervision
- Follow all established standard operating and safety procedures as well as company policies
- Perform general housekeeping duties as necessary
- Perform other tasks assigned by management
Experience & Knowledge:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Successful completion of all required on the job training
- Successful completion of all required health and environmental safety training
- Associate Degree or Technical Certificate in related discipline preferred
- Minimum of 3-5 years of lead maintenance experience in a manufacturing facility
- Knowledge of all OSHA requirements pertaining to the maintenance department as well as Insurance requirements to be compliant
- In depth knowledge of the electrical and mechanical equipment, facilities maintenance, and systems required

- Operate in a team-based environment
- Read and understand technical documents and instructions such as blueprints, electrical schematics, mechanical and machine drawings for installations, troubleshooting, and repair
- Redirect skills to support new technologies while maintaining current commitments and ability to perform in a high-pressure environment and/or crisis situations
- Render good decisions to resolve problems, maintain safety and ensure adherence to Corporate Code of Conduct
- Manage/implement projects and contribute to concept development
- Using all facility equipment and machinery to allow for troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and resolve other basic operating problems
- Analyze and interpret data and charts
- Basic computer skills
Physical Requirements:
- May require bending, squatting, climbing, and other physical movement for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently
- Working around moving equipment and in an industrial environment
- Working in an environment where there may be regular exposure to chemicals, noise from machinery, dust, fumes, and variable temperatures
- Close vision depth perception and color perception are occasionally required to perform this job
