Primary Objective:

 

 

 

In broad terms, briefly state the major purpose or primary objective of this position.

Operates raw board handling conveyors, saws and does various quality control checks.

 

Major Functions and Scope:

Using brief narrative statements, describe each major function or responsibility explaining the scope of the function as appropriate.

 

 

 

Daily Operations

 

  • Call Press Operator with the dimensions of the most current pallet.  Sometimes more than once an hour, depending on the product.
  • Quality board checks at the reject bin catwalk looking for spots, drips, etc.
  • Check quality at the reject bin itself by pullout rejected boards when needed.
  • On products that require, do divot checks.
  • Get a Bow check on flooring products and sometimes on thin if needed.
  • Blow down and sweep up fiber and saw dust at the reject bin pallet area.
  • Blow down inside trim saw house when needed.
  • Blow off sensors that interfere with change overs.
  • Blow down finish line to prevent the dust accumulates on rollers and drive belt trays, etc. 
  • Blow down diagonal saw house if and when possible. 
  • Blow and sweep up fiber that falls to floor after line has been cleaned.
  • Clean under trim saw house by using suction hoses when needed for dust that falls to the floor.
  • Keep Outfeed Control Room cleaned and organized and empty trash cans. 
  • Check for any new blades and segments that have been returned sharpened and put them where they belong.
  • Do the inspection on the forklift plus check fuel in lift and fill when needed.
  • At the beginning of your shift, check the cuts on trim saws and diagonal saws. 
  • Change blades accordingly when needed. 
  • Check the preliminary schedule that we are running daily.
  • Be aware when changeovers will be so you can plan your jobs and responsibilities.
  • Blow out under the stackers and the out-feed roller table.
  • Keep the area clean around the pallet transport.
  • Check pallets for damages, loose cover boards, etc. 
  • Load pallet transport when needed.
  • Monitors the continuous production of the product through Outfeed conveyors, saws and stackers.
  • Identifies process variation, determines the source, and works to eliminate it.
  • Performs root cause analysis on problems to assist for a quick solution.
  • Communicates with other control room operator to maintain stable and consistent production.
  • Monitors raw board quality and takes immediate action to eliminate problems negatively impacting it.
  • Performs basic maintenance related tasks.
  • Assists maintenance personnel in performing technical work.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

 

Shutdown Operations

 

  • Blow down the finishing line from stackers to the and including diagonal saw house.
  • This will require harness and tie off to blow belts off from above, including all conveyers locked out.
  • Blow down the diagonal saw house from top to bottom including table.
  • Blow out the energy chain above saws first.
  • Change any blades on diagonal saws that need changing.
  • Blow down the trim saw house from top to bottom.
  • Clear suction lines inside trim saw house to ensure suction is all clear.
  • Change any trim saw blades that may need changing.
  • Blow down the stackers from top to bottom and then blow out from underneath stackers.
  • Blow down pallet transport and underneath it.
  • Clean west wall along stackers and pallet transport.
  • Verify all sensory along finish line are working properly.
  • Inspect finishing bag house and cyclone for plugging material before bringing production back up.
  • Perform test cuts of diagonal saws after suction system is back operational.
  • Assist other areas of THDF which range from assisting the changing of refiner plates, cleaning on press, and blowing down structures, and assisting Wallace in cleaning the dryer, cyclones, and fans.
  • Assist with floor cleaning once we are back in production.

High school degree or equivalent

 

Experience: Describe the work experience(s) that are required.

Requires 2 or more years experience in a manufacturing environment

Core competencies include strong communication and interpersonal skills, listening skills, data analysis and interpretation.

  • Must be able to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time on concrete.
  • Must be able to work in varying temperatures up to 110 degrees and dusty environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 80 lbs occasionally. 
  • Must be able to climb vertical ladders, multiple flights of stairs and work off elevated surfaces.
  • Must not have any limitations in regards to working in confined spaces or wearing a respirator for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to wear hearing protection, eye protection, and steel toe shoes.
  • Must be able to make repetitive motions involving twisting and turning and using the force of 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to kneel and bend over frequently.
  • Must be able to climb on and work around machinery resulting in awkward or uncomfortable positions.
  • Must be able to sit and drive forklift on uneven driving surface.
  • Must have vision of 20/50(corrected or not).
