Primary Objective:

 

 

 

In broad terms, briefly state the major purpose or primary objective of this position.

The Sanding Forklift operator performs various job functions to support the operation of the Sanding department.  The duties range from moving materials in and around the Sanding Department

to cleaning the Sanding area.

 

 

Major Functions and Scope:

Using brief narrative statements, describe each major function or responsibility explaining the scope of the function as appropriate.

 

 

 

  • Unload material from Sanding packaging area. Verify that it is labeled correctly. 
  • Be able to safely lift, carry and stack two finished pallets at a time.
  • Ensure all materials are staged in the warehouse per the instructions given by the Shipping Department.
  • Ensure all materials are stacked even and as high as safely possible, while keeping an eye on surroundings to notice obstacles such as overhead water pipes.
  • Must be able to load automated packing line with runners when time permits
  • Will participate in down day activities such as cleaning, bag change, etc...
  • Must cover vacations requests from the opposing shift’s 210 driver.
  • Perform quality checks in accordance with Mohawk procedures and notify the Sanding Team Leader of any discrepancies.
  • Re-package finished pallets of material that are damaged or incorrectly packaged for shipment or delivery to another work center.
  • Adhere to the “3 foot rule” regarding lifts and pedestrian interactions.
  • Wear gloves when handling material.
  • Operate an automated banding tool and a battery powered banding tool.
  • Lift and apply runners to empty pallets.
  • Lift and apply cover boards to pallets.
  • Sweep the floors and remove piles of swept up debris.
  • Use an air wand to blow off machinery.
  • Refill diesel powered lifts with fuel.
  • Resupply banding rolls to Band Dispenser, assist mounting and feeding of band.
  • Ensure lifts are left with at least a half a tank of fuel.
  • Refill small lift with propane.
  • Maintain safe driving speeds throughout the plant.
  • Communicate with proper etiquette via two-way radio with crew members.
  • Document and report any damage or malfunctions to the lift before operating.
  • Ensure wider or longer material is never staged on top of narrower or shorter material.
  • Perform daily inspections and PM’s to the 210.
  • Mount and dismount lifts with three points of contact while facing the lift.
  • Read and interpret pallet tags on finished and semi-finished materials.
  • Keep the cabs of the lifts clean, neat and tidy.
  • Read, understand, and follow packaging instructions for material being packaged.
  • Assist in product changeovers, belt changes, and blade changes on the sanding line.
  • Clean the Sanding area.
  • Unload empty pallets on, sanding in-feed.
  • Safely ensure trash and waste hoppers are emptied as they are filled.
  • Assist other work centers with cleaning or packaging as directed by the Sanding Team Leader.
  • Locate supplies needed to perform any of the above functions and notify the Sanding Team Leader of any shortages of materials.
  • Obey all safety requirements and operate lift in a safe and efficient manner
  • Communicate any problems or ideas that you have to the Sanding Team Leader.
  • Observes safe work practices in compliance with the safety policy
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the Sanding Team Leader

1 yr experience in a manufacturing setting.

  • Operate a 210 or smaller forklift for extended periods of time. 
  • Get on and off the forklift repeatedly.
  • Operate propane filling and dispensing equipment.
 
 

Other Pertinent Job Information: (Such as, American with Disabilities Act – ADA requirements for certain hourly positions).

  • Must be able to lift up to, but not to exceed 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Must be able to push or pull 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Must be able to make repetitive motions involving twisting and turning.
  • Must be able to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time on concrete.
  • Must be able to kneel and bend over frequently.
  • Must be able to climb on and work around machinery resulting in awkward or uncomfortable positions.
  • Must be able to use hand tools frequently.
  • Must be able to work in varying temperatures up to 110 degrees and dusty environment.
  • Must be able to climb vertical ladders, multiple flights of stairs and work off elevated surfaces.
  • Must not have any limitations in regards to working in confined spaces or wearing a respirator for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to sit and drive forklift on uneven driving surface.
  • Must have vision of 20/50 with corrective lenses if needed.
