What we need:

The Category Manager is responsible for developing and executing category strategies across the Home Center channel to drive sales, market share, and profitability. This position combines high-level strategic planning with day-to-day operational execution, leveraging data insights, collaboration across departments, and strong market acumen to align product offerings with evolving customer needs.

What you'll do:

Category Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for product categories that achieve revenue, margin, and market share goals
  • Analyze industry trends, customer insights, and competitive benchmarks to inform category decisions
  • Create long-term plans for assortment, pricing, and promotional strategies

Assortment & Pricing

  • Optimize product mix across the home center channel
  • Verify and monitor pricing across systems and customer touchpoints to ensure accuracy and profitability
  • Develop exit strategies for underperforming products and identify opportunities for new product introductions

System and Process Integration

  • Support category data integrity across Mohawk systems and Lowe’s systems
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support enhancements or implementation of sales enablement tools and reporting platforms
  • Troubleshoot data and pricing discrepancies in coordination with cross-functional partners
  • Ensure category data structures are aligned for reporting, dashboards and customer facing material

Promotions & Marketing

  • Collaborate with marketing teams to design and execute promotional campaigns
  • Ensure alignment of category initiatives with brand positioning and customer engagement strategies
  • Track ROI on promotional activities and adjust plans based on performance

Data Analysis, Forecasting & Reporting

  • Use analytics tools to monitor category performance, identify trends, and forecast demand
  • Prepare and analyze daily, weekly, and monthly category reports including sales performance, pricing, forecasts, inventory trends, and customer consumption patterns.
  • Prepare and present reports on category KPIs to senior leadership
  • Recommend actions based on data insights to improve profitability and customer satisfaction.  Identify business risks or upside opportunities
  • Lead root-cause analysis for variances in sales trends or inventory positions and recommend corrective actions

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with sales, supply chain, finance, and product development teams to align strategy with execution
  • Align category strategies with operational capabilities and inventory planning
  • Support training initiatives and communication for sales teams on category-specific programs
  • Maintain clean data, execute system processes, and respond to sales requests (e.g., price updates, content validation, etc.)
  • Support special projects and ad hoc analysis requests from category leadership and Sales teams as needed

 

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Supply Chain, or related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in category management, merchandising, or product management—preferably in flooring, building materials, or home improvement

 

What you're good at:

  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
  • Proficiency in Excel, SAP, and data analysis tools
  • Excellent communication and project management abilities
  • Knowledge of flooring trends is a plus
  • Requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in own job discipline.
