Primary Objective:  In broad terms, briefly state the major purpose of primary objective of this position.

Lubricates all weaving machinery with oil and grease as necessary to maintain optimum quality and production levels.  Operates the QA table as needed. Will perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Major Function and Scope: Using brief narrative statements, describe each major function of responsibility explaining the scope of the function as appropriate.

  1. Constantly patrols looms and lubricates machinery parts with oil and grease, checks lubricant levels, fills auto-oilers and reports oil leaks.
    1. Stop the machine by pressing the stop button.
    2. Turn the fly wheel to 350°.
    3. Apply the pin or LOTO as required to prevent startup of the machine.
    4. To restart machine, remove pin or LOTO. Ensure other workers are clear of the machine. Press the start buttons (P7300 looms) or engage the start handle (TW11 and P7100 looms).
    5. If yarn breaks on machine start up, use correct knots to repair yarn break and attempt to restart the machine.

GREASING

  1. If required, unhook clamp to remove housing cover to allow access to grease fittings.
  2. Use grease joint rejuvenator, lubricating oil and hammer to unclog fittings as needed. If fittings are bad, use wrench to remove old fitting and insert new fitting.
  3. Use battery powered or air powered grease gun to grease all fittings on looms. (Employee may use his/her preferred grease gun to perform greasing duties.)
      1. TW11 machines, grease 6 fittings on the FA side and 15 fittings on the SU side.
      2. On P7300 looms, grease 12 fittings on the FA side and 23 fittings on the SU side.
      3. On P7100 looms, grease 7 fittings on the FA side and 20 fittings on the SU side.
  1. Use grease gun to apply grease to gears on P7100 looms. Use allen wrench to remove panel doors to access gears.
  2. Use plyers and wrench change the tip on the grease gun as needed. 

OILING

  1. Use automatic pump to transfer oil from drum to oil barrel on cart.
    1. If drum is empty, move pump from empty drum to full drum.
    2. If pump on oil barrel is loose, use screw driver to tighten it as needed.
  2. Remove cap on oil reservoir/s on loom and use manual pump to fill reservoir. Replace cap on reservoir. (TW11 and P7100 looms have one reservoir; P7300 looms have two reservoirs.)
  1. Records all action on the proper forms and check sheets, takes corrective action or makes recommendations for repair to machinery.
    1. Make note of missing/broken parts or covers and excessive oil leaks. Turn in notes to the shift supervisor.
    2. If loom will not start, raise flag on machine to notify the loom fixer. For machines monitored by computer, enter REQUEST TECH declaration for that machine.

 

  1. Maintains cleanliness of oil room next to the supply room. Cleans up spills in the oil room as needed to prevent slipping hazards.
  2. Use compressed air to blow off accumulators on P7300 and P7100 looms.
  3. Mop or otherwise clean up oil leaks and spills under and around looms. Use towels and/or oil pads to clean up leaks around catwalks and walk ways to prevent slip hazards.
  1. Operates the QA Table as needed.
    1. Obtain an identified defective roll of fabric, placing it on the loading table using a powered industrial truck.
    2. Performs fabric inspection based on documented acceptance criteria.
    3. Observes fabric for defects such as broken picks, slubs, stripbacks, untucked selvages, etc. and repairs mendable defects.  Records number of defects each one hundred (100) yards.
    4. Alerts the shift Supervisor/Department Manager and manufacturing of any quality problems observed during inspection of rolls being ticketed or inspected.
    5. Thread and use sewing machine and change needle in sewing machine.
    6. Other required procedures: count picks per inch, measure width of fabric, and starting machine.
    7. Records vital information on all rolls sent to the inspection table to enable follow-up.
    8. Makes a 6th quality ticket and after determining fabric quality, records and makes a finished ticket using correct procedure.
    9. After completing inspection, excess tails are removed using clippers, a finished ticket is attached to the end disc.  The end disc is placed on the core and secured with a wire tie.
    10. Using a powered industrial truck transports roll of fabric from the inspection table to the strapping table. 
    11. Distributes appropriate forms/papers.

    2. Works safely and orderly.
    3. Notify supervision of any hazardous or unsafe conditions.
    4. Maintains clean and orderly work area.
    5. Perform all necessary miscellaneous work pertaining to the above job duties.

Type of Experience and Knowledge:

Knowledge, Experience, Competencies and Supervision: Describe the education, knowledge required, years of experience, specific skills and abilities required to do the job on a fully competent basis.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE PREREQUISITES:

Mandatory – Must be able to read and write in manner indicated on application. 

Preferred – Experience performing simple maintenance on machinery and mechanical aptitude.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to work assigned schedule.  Perform simple judgements to determine oil levels in machinery.  Log required information on tags and check sheets and/or keep notes on work progress. Ability to legibly fill out forms/check sheets.  Must be able to learn basic loom start up procedures, such as stopping and starting the machinery and tying knots (weavers knot and slashers knot) to repair yarn breaks on start up.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports to the Weaving Department Manager, but works with minimum amount of supervision.

DIRECTION EXERCISED:

Limited to personal activities required to perform duties of job.

STANDING / WALKING:

Ability to stand and walk continuously for eight (8) to twelve (12) hours during an eight (8) to twelve (12) hour shift.

SITTING:

MOVING SELF:

Ability to move throughout weaving department continuously during an eight (8) to twelve (12) hour shift.

CLIMBING:

Ability to step on/off catwalk, as needed, during an eight (8) to twelve (12) hour shift..

MOVING (MATERIALS): (Lifting – carrying – pushing – pulling)

Pushing/pulling – Ability to push/pull oil and grease cart to/from assigned work area and throughout the plant continuously during an eight (8) to twelve (12) hour shift.  Ability to push/pull wrenches, ratchets and other hand tools frequently and as needed perform the job duties.  Push not pull any (movable type) equipment.  Get help when needed.

Lifting/carrying – Ability to lift/carry up to fifty (50) pounds without mechanical assistance.  Get help when needed.

HEARING / SPEAKING:

Must be able to communicate with co-workers and management as needed to perform job.

REACHING:

Vertical – Ability to reach up to full arm extension while performing job duties.

Horizontal – Ability to reach up to full arm extension while performing job duties.

VISUAL ACUITY:

Must have adequate normal, color vision and depth perception to perform job duties.  Ability to see small openings and fluid levels in looms.  Ability to utilize both near and far vision while performing job duties. Ability to recognize defects in fabric.

BENDING / STOOPING:

Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, squat and assume awkward positions while performing job duties.

MENTAL ABILITIES:

Ability to make decisions regarding work priorities.  Ability to complete simple forms. 

OTHER:

Fingering - Ability to demonstrate good tactile discrimination and functional sensation.

Medium motor manipulation – Ability to use scissors, reed hook and other hand tools to perform job duties.

Fine motor coordination – Ability to manipulate tools, tie small knots, manipulate buttons and knobs to start and stop looms.

Grip – Ability to grip and squeeze handles and manual pumps and hand tools; utilizes both a one handed and two-handed grip.

 

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

Must wear hearing protection, safety glasses with permanent side shields and safety shoes always when in the warehouse and on production floor.  Must adhere to plant clothing and footwear policy.  Wear personal protective equipment as required by task at hand.  Use lockout/tagout where required.

MACHINE, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT:

Loom, miscellaneous hand tools (allen wrench, adjustable wrench, hammer, grease joint rejuvenator and plyers), oil cans, grease guns, air hose, pump, scissors, reed hook, lockout lock, lockout tag, and pen/pencil.

MATERIALS USED:

Lubricants and cleaning/fluid materials.
