What we need:


Mohawk is looking for an Sr. Research and Development Engineer who can do more with Mohawk. The ideal candidate will formulate, recommend and direct research and development programs to meet business needs for improvement and cost reduction of existing products and processes, introduction of new products and processes for existing businesses, and development of new business applications for existing core technologies.


This position will serves as project manager or key contributor on major, high risk, high dollar and complex projects that crosses organizational lines.


What you’ll do:

  • Strategic Planning: Participates with senior management in developing strategic organizational goals and recommending projects to achieve these goals. Manages projects to meet business objectives.
  • Product Development: Formulates, recommends and executes research programs for improvement and cost reduction of existing products, the development of new products, processes and raw materials, and development of new business applications for existing core technologies. Consults with customers, sales and marketing, and operations on new product requirements. Prepares work progress reports, and recommends the addition, expansion or discontinuation of projects.
  • Development Protocols / Reports: Reviews and evaluates research and development protocols, results and conclusions. Ensures that all research and development activities are conducted under appropriate standards for completeness, accuracy and documentation to conform to industry expectations for safety, efficacy and compatibility within cost, delivery date and quality standards.
  • Design Specification / Testing: Understands product functional and customer requirements. Develops tests to verify product meets requirements and sets appropriate specifications to ensure product reliability and manufacturability. Conducts testing of new products and investigates customer complaints on existing products to determine appropriate resolution.
  • Managerial: Defines, develops, organizes, supervises and coordinates division research and development projects of diverse scope and complexity. Develops project plans, manages resources and activities in accordance with organizational priorities and cost control initiatives.Identify additional activities, training, or other materials necessary to achieve specific product sales goals, maintain responsibility for continuously improving activities that can affect customer perception
  • Advanced Concepts / Patents: Stays abreast and maintains knowledge of emerging technologies, practices, regulations and products in the marketplace and industry, which may impact the organization’s core businesses or result in new opportunities. Contacts current and potential customers to define or refine new product applications. Maintains active investigation of future potential raw materials and product applications. Documents new product ideas and product improvement ideas; ensures patent activity to protect new development.
  • Regulatory / Quality Systems: Maintains knowledge of and enforces compliance with FDA Quality System Regulations (QSR), ISO 9001, Company Quality Systems policies and procedures, and other applicable industry standards, state and federal regulations and applicable International laws and regulations


What you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Research and Development or related discipline, required
  • PHD with emphasis in Research & Development in the field of Biology, Chemistry, Engineering  Research and Development or related discipline recommended
  • 10 years’ experience in carpet manufacturing/ development, for an organization of comparable scope and complexity, experience must include…
    • demonstrated experience developing efficient and effective solutions to diverse and
    • complex business problems
    • high dollar and high-risk vendor contract negotiation and management
    • Mastery of higher-level statistical tools and problem-solving methods
    • ISO 9000 or other comparable quality/safety implementation experience
    • Demonstrated project management skills and experience, which included project
    • leadership in organizing, planning and executing large-scale projects from vision
    • through implementation, across multiple internal and external reporting and organizational lines.
    • Demonstrated experience in business process re-engineering or process improvement involving broad-based technology systems, utilizing tools and techniques to effect business change and Six Sigma/Lean
  • 4+ years of demonstrated management/leadership experience that includes…
    • demonstrated strategic thinking and leadership experience with an emphasis on relationship management with all levels within an organization of comparable size and structure
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidiscipline, high-performance work teams/groups and managing resources to meet organizational goals across multiple projects
