What we need:

This role guides an organizations technology strategy focusing on areas like Artificial Intelligence (AI) eCommerce and Digital Transformation. Their responsibilities include leading the development and implementation of solutions fostering a culture of improvement and driving the organization towards future success through technology.

 

What you’ll do:

  •  Strategic Leadership
    • Create and implement a plan, for innovation that matches the organizations goals and current market trends.
    • Collaborate closely with top level executives to define and execute the technology roadmap.
  • Management of Innovation
    • Identify and prioritize technologies and business models that can enhance the organizations competitive edge.
    • Lead multi-disciplinary teams in developing and executing projects and initiatives.
  • AI and Data Strategy
    • Develop and oversee the implementation of the organization’s strategy for AI and data utilization.
    • Provide guidance to teams in creating and deploying AI algorithms and machine learning models.
  • eCommerce and Digital Transformation
    • Take charge of setting the direction for eCommerce initiatives within the organization.
    • Drive transformation across all areas of operation leveraging technology to enhance business processes well as customer experiences.
  • Engaging with Stakeholders
    • Foster relationships with personnel, external partners, vendors well, as various business units.
    • Collaborate with departments to ensure that innovation strategies align effectively with business objectives.
  • Research and Development (R&D) and Prototyping
    • Take charge of overseeing research and development activities encouraging experimentation and prototyping technologies and concepts.
  • Budget Management and Resource Allocation
    • Create and manage the budget for innovation ensuring that resources are allocated effectively.
    • Report on the return on investment (ROI) of innovation initiatives to leadership.
  • Ensuring Compliance and Governance
    • Ensure that all innovation projects comply with regulations while aligning with company policies and standards.
    • Establish governance structures, for innovation projects to ensure coordination, alignment, accountability.

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree: A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field is often the minimum requirement. This foundational education is crucial for understanding the technical aspects that the role will oversee.
  • Master’s Degree (preferred): Particularly an MBA or a master's in a relevant technical field. Advanced degrees often provide more in-depth knowledge of technology management, business strategy, and leadership, which are crucial for a director-level position.
  • Given the rapidly evolving nature of technology, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to continued learning, such as certifications in project management (PMP), IT service management (ITIL), or specific technologies/platforms relevant to the business.

What you’re good at:

  • Extensive Industry Experience: Generally, this role requires at least 10-15 years of experience in the tech industry, with a significant portion of that time spent in management or leadership roles. Experience in driving innovation projects, leading technical teams, and managing complex IT initiatives is essential.
  • Leadership Experience: Proven experience in leading diverse teams, managing cross-functional projects, and driving organizational change. This includes excellent people management skills, with an emphasis on inspiring and fostering innovation.
  • Strategic Planning: Experience in strategic planning and execution is necessary. This includes the ability to envision and guide the company's technology direction to align with its business strategy and the foresight to anticipate and act on future technology trends.
  • Project Management: Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage budgets, timelines, and resources effectively. Experience with agile development methods could be beneficial.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are crucial, as this role requires explaining complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders, negotiating with senior management, and inspiring teams.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrated ability to solve complex, systemic issues that span multiple technologies and business areas.
  • Change Management: Experience with change management and guiding organizations through significant technology transitions or digital transformations.
  • Industry-Specific Experience: Depending on the sector (e.g., healthcare, finance, manufacturing), experience in that particular industry may be required or preferred, as different sectors have unique technology applications and regulatory considerations.
