What we need:

  • To develop and implement supply-chain strategies for our Import & Export port operations, drayage, transload/delivery to DCs, reporting and network optimization supporting all Mohawk Industries divisions, that reduce landed-cost and bring full visibility to the business.  The position will have direct influence on reducing and ultimately eliminating all Detention and Demurrage port charges. 

What you’ll do:

  • Manage port drayage carriers to ensure all containers are picked up timely from the seaports for Mohawk Industries divisions and supporting Dal-Tile in collaboration with both Intl. Logistics teams
  • Track ETA’s on containers coming to port and maintain system integrity for full visibility on all Mohawk Industries shipments
  • Full elimination of Demurrage and Detention at all seaports, inland ports, CY’s, and rail depots
  • Ensure only approved and reputable drayage providers/trans-loaders are utilized by full vetting of the company’s financial health, proper insurance, and compliance requirements are up to date
  • Issue delivery orders to drayage providers, internal fleet, steamship lines and freight forwarders as necessary
  • Maintain up-to-date records and data integrity on transshipments and ETA’s through various reports and EDI feeds for containers leaving and entering the port to eliminate demurrage and detention charges
  • Ensure EDI compliance with dray carriers for full visibility on container and shipment status
  • Work with new drayage providers to ensure 214 EDI connectivity
  • Send dray companies forecasts to ensure pre-planned capacity on containers arriving at the port of discharge
  • Send updates to carriers and internal fleet contacts regarding empty containers on the yard for timely pickup and return to port
  • Work directly with Mohawk risk management and insurance teams to ensure UIIA, Interchanges, and Insurance certifications are up to date annually avoiding being shut out of the port terminals
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction through rate negotiation, carrier identification, and market analysis
  • Work with IS, Port Operations Manager, and Inland Transportation Manager on increasing automation on all Mohawk Industries container/ last free day visibility, dray cost, and demurrage/ detention cost.
  • Work with Mohawk counterparts on import/ export needs, documentation, and carrier utilization
  • Eliminate all pre-pulls and yard storage by implementing visibility and tracking solutions where containers are out-gated prior to their Last Free Day (LFD)
  • Work directly with major US Seaport Port Authorities to develop a healthy business relationship that gives Mohawk high level customer service
  • Thinks and acts strategically when developing new drayage opportunities by using our own Mohawk assets and where we can bring savings and value to the business; Dual utilization and asset optimization strategies are key to identify and implement
  • Support and actively engage in International Transportation IS solutions that can be interfaced with existing systems (SAP TM, Log-Net) and demonstrate deep understanding how these can increase productivity
  • Be the first to alert the business when a large number of containers may arrive at any one given time that could negatively impact our D.C. receiving operations and develop plans to eliminate container build-up at port
  • Research and advise to management when potential asset investment may be needed or can generate a cost savings payback (Chassis, Tractors, Trailers, Overweight Permits, etc) and presenting cost/benefit analysis
  •  Work directly with the ocean carriers to have Last Free Days extended when holidays, natural disasters, or unusually large influxes cause a disturbance to the supply-chain to avoid additional port charges
  • Collaborates with Mohawk domestic logistics team to identify where we can utilize Mohawk drop trailers to eliminate third party OTR carrier expense
  • Develop excellent working relationships with Freight Forwarders, Dray provides, Customs Brokers, Steamship Lines, and other supply-chain partners that gives Mohawk a competitive advantage
  • Other work as assigned.

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain and/or Logistics
  • 3+ years’ experience of drayage, intermodal, Seaport operations, domestics trucking, international logistics in ocean and air freight, rail, and breakbulk shipping modes
  • Deep understanding of Ocean Importing rules and regulations and how each port has its own unique operations and terminal infrastructure when developing drayage opportunities
  • Working knowledge U.S. Customs import regulations and how customs brokerage and compliance issue can impact the international supply-chain
  • Ability to interact and present confidently to executive and senior level management within Mohawk

  • Excellent presentation, oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills to effectively interact with Mohawk’s senior management, internal and external business contacts; ability to communicate with others in an antagonistic situation using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to reduce tension or conflict and maintain professionalism in accordance with corporate standards
  • Effectively demonstrates thoughtful thinking to develop long-term strategies while ensuring short-term business requirements are executed flawlessly
