What we need:

The Colorist is an established performer that works to facilitate and support the Design function and relevant projects by concentrating entirely on color strategy, trend analysis, and the development of new yarn and carpet colorways. This role is responsible for ensuring the accurate and consistent coloring of materials. 

 

What you'll do:

  • Proactively monitor and research color, material, and finish (CMF) trends within the residential interior design markets.
  • Follow industry trends for relevant market-related color news, ensuring the company's palette remains current and competitive.
  • Present trend analysis and color stories to the design and product teams.
  • Create new yarn colors through collaboration with manufacturing, yarn suppliers, and dye labs to achieve desired hues, ensuring color accuracy and technical feasibility.
  • Maintain and manage the master color library for all fiber types, ensuring standardization across different yarn systems.
  • Develop color standards, tolerances, and procedures for consistency in design and development.
  • Organize and maintain physical and digital color files and standards.
  • Design and develop cohesive carpet colorlines for new product introductions based on market needs and trend analysis.
  • Work with the design team to apply color to new carpet constructions and patterns, optimizing aesthetic appeal and yield.
  • Participate in product reviews, making expert color recommendations to enhance market suitability.
  • Partner with Product Development, Sales, and Marketing teams to ensure color strategies align with business goals and target market segments.
  • Provide expert color consultation and support throughout the design development process.

 

What you have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Textile Design, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years’ relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to pass a colorblind test.

 

What you're good at: 

  • Exceptional eye for color, value, and saturation; proven ability to identify, match, and manipulate color.
  • Strong familiarity with the yarn dyeing process and textile construction is highly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and visual presentation skills to convey complex color information and trends.
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of technical, process, and business principles as well as industry practices and standards.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite products.

 

What else?

  • Occasional travel may be required. 
  • The ability to lift 50 pounds regularly.
